As you drive around the island, keep an eye out for the locals selling fruits and vegetables, sometimes those stands will include flower crowns and necklaces. My favorite ladies, who (in my opinion) make some of the best flower crowns are at the market in Papeete in Tahiti and in Moorea you will find amazing ladies near the ferry. They are usually located on the seaside before you reach, the grocery store, Champion.
How much do flower crowns cost
Each flower crown can range from 20 – 30 USD. At the resorts you can find flower crowns cost up to $100 USD.
Can you make your own flower crown
YES!! On my last trip to Moorea, I hosted a group trip where we made crowns by hand. You can learn to make a traditional Tahitian flower crown (heipo’o) on Moorea by taking a local cultural class or by gathering fresh island flowers and assembling one yourself.

How to Make a Traditional Tahitian Flower Crown
Collect a wide variety of color flowers, cut them to be approximately six inch long. You will also need a long natural thin plant fiber or green ribbon. Gather a few flowers and take the plant fiber or ribbon and wrap the ends. Layer more flowers on top, slightly overlapping and wrapping them continuously until the entire length of the crown is covered and will fit you.
The beautiful crowns, pictured above, took about two hours to complete. With the amount of labor put into each crown plus the time to gather fresh flowers and leafy greens daily, well, the cost is well worth it.
tip to make them last
You can extend the life of your flower crown by storing it overnight in the refrigerator. In the past, many have told me to store it in the refrigerator in a shallow dish of water. However, after many tests, it is best to store it without water.
