Welcome to paradise!! If you are here on this post you may already know about the famous shark and ray spot of Moorea. Over the years, it has become somewhat of a insta famous location. However, it is very much a local spot for humans and marine life. In this post, I will share how you can get to this spot for free or fee.
Closest Option to the shark and ray spot
There is a parking lot across the street from Les Tipaniers Hotel. From there you can walk down the hotels driveway to access the beach. Recently, I was told they have started charging a small fee of $5 for access.
On the beach, if you would to rent a boat, kayak, or paddleboard they are available. As always, they will explain how to safely navigate the lagoon, how to drive the boat if you rent one and instructions on where and how to park. The shark and ray destination is maybe a 3 minute ride. Very easy to locate or simply snorkel to. The water is about 3 feet deep so you will be able to stand.
Second Option to the shark and ray spot
If you do not want to pay. Put all your gear in a dry bag, go down the road to Hauru park, and swim to the shark and ray spot. This is my preferred option because you can potentially see turtles and spotted eagle rays.
Use caution with boat traffic, especially the jet skis.
Book a Tour
Snorkel with turtles, rays and black tip reef sharks aka take a little swim with the locals. This is a popular spot that is visited all hours of the day by locals, tour boats, kayakers, people exploring the lagoon on SUPs or simply snorkeling.

Extra tips
Pack reef safe sunscreen, a hat or some type of shade. A long sleeve rashguard is also highly recommended. The water might feel cool and refreshing, but the sun is very strong.
