Flights From The US
From Los Angeles (LAX): Nonstop flights are about 8 hours via Delta, Air France, and Air Tahiti Nui.
From San Francisco (SFO): Nonstop flights take about 9 hours and are available via United Airlines.
From Honolulu (HNL): Nonstop flights are about 6 hours and are available via Alaska Airlines.
Flights From Australia
Coming soon, starting December 14, 2026 Air Tahiti Nui will be offering nonstop flights from Sydney to Tahiti. Flight time is approximately 7 hours and 15 minutes and the flights will be offered twice a week to start.
Flights From Asia
Nonstop flights are available from Tokyo Japan via Air Tahiti Nui. This flight is offered twice a week with a flight time around 11 hours.
Flights From Auckland, NZ
Nonstop flights are available from Auckland via Air New Zealand. This flight is offered one to two times per week with a flight time just under 5 hours.
Average Cost of Flights
The cost to reach these islands of paradise can range greatly from $600 USD from LAX or SFO to over $2,000 USD from Asia, AUS, or New Zealand.
Where to Stay in Moorea
A few friendly notes. The best time to visit is the months of June through October. The weather is cooler, drier, and it is Humpback Whale season. Read The Ultimate Travel Guide to Moorea to know all the details on swimming with whales. Tahiti airport (PPT) does offer complimentary WiFi. There are ATMs located inside the airport near McDonalds, highly recommend taking out cash before you leave the airport.

As well as Ahe, Anaa, Apataki, Arutua, Faaite, Fakahina, Fangatau, Hao, Hikueru, Katiu, Kauehi, Kaukura, Makemo, Mangareva, Manihi, Mataiva, Maupiti, Napuka, Niau, Nukutavake, Puka Puka, Pukarua, Raivavae, Raroia, Rarotonga, Reao, Rimatara, Rurutu, Takapoto, Tubuai, Tureia, Ua Huka, Ua Pou, and Vahitahi.
It is important to note, for all of the additional destinations offered by Air Tahiti they occur maybe once a week. Booking multi-island trips takes a lot of planning. It is best to contact the airlines directly for assistance.
Other Important Notes About Inter-island Flights
Weight: very strict. These inter-island fights are some of the strictest weight restrictions I’ve experienced. For checked luggage, it is the international standard of 23kgs (50 lbs) or paying double for the standard international maximum weight of 46 kgs or 100 pounds.
Carry-on weight restrictions are also strict. Carry-on is limited to 5 to 10 kgs or 11 to 22 pounds. No personal items are allowed.
**SCUBA DIVERS** show your scuba certification card at the check-in counter. Doing this grants you an additional 5 kg or 11 pounds for your checked luggage only.
When I left corporate health care to travel full time, French Polynesia was my first destination.
The Tahitian way of life restored my faith in humanity. Most importantly, it reset my heart and soul back to what really matters in life.
